Two Headlines . . .

Hillary Praises Palin: ‘Composed and Effective Debater’

MSNBC’s Matthews: Palin Looked Into Camera Like a ‘Dolt’

I did not click on either link.  I will read the Hillary article after I finish this.  I shan’t bother to read the second one, for obvious reasons.

I don’t like Obama, the man or the message, but I’m not going to call him a dolt.  Or say that he looks like a dolt.  Why would a journalist allow this kind of subjectivity and apparent partisanship into his reporting?  Even if he’s not a journalist, but just a commentator, why go all Nag on in his commentary?

  1. Sheila222 Says:

Chris Matthews is no Tim Russert.

  2. Blyblather Says:

There is no denying that in some political circles, including some that are Conservative, there is a heartfelt, deeply held opinion that picking her was a huge mistake on many levels, and that Palin is flat out unqualified to be V.P. Matthews makes his living being “loud” and “opinionated” but he is also no dummy and he is one of a number of people I have heard recently that expressed their opinion of the picking of Palin in a heated, angry manner.

The picking of Palin was a political move, a ploy to help McCain reach the presidency. This was not about Palin and certainly not about “Country First”, it was about “McCain/GOP First”. It remains to be seen if this was a smart move or not.

  3. sarai Says:

It is indecent and insulting to our country and people to have made such a reckless, desperate, and plainly unreasonable choice. She is so unqualified, unfit for public consumption by the campaigns’ unwillingness to permit reporters access since the debate.
… McCains’ initial appointment and subsequent mishandling of Palin has established he, himself, is unfit for the presidency..

  4. Blyblather Says:

To the best of my knowledge, Lieberman was McCain’s first pick but the GOP would not allow it. Palin was a compromise pick that McCain went along with but there is no telling how enthusiastic McCain was about the decision to pick Palin. He must have found the alternative choices to be much worse.

  5. sarai Says:

Bly, He was reckless and careless to have chosen her without proper vetting, interviewing or scrutiny. (Did you know they did not even do an FBI check on her?). It was impulsive, desperate, and irresponsible. Not to mention cruel to this woman who was doing just fine in Alaska.
…A stronger, more astute candidate would have gone with Tom Ridge. There were many female candidates that would have been far more solid on his ticket I think. I’m so furious about this wrecking that’s taken place.

  6. sarai Says:

I’m beginning to suspect that McCain simply doesn’t get along with anybody in his party … that Palin being such an unknown and outsider was the only potential for a nominee that was personally palatable to him.

  7. sarai Says:

Out of unintelligible curiousity Bert … what is it about Obama the man and his message that you dislike?

  8. Vanda52 Says:

“She is so unqualified, unfit for public consumption”

actually sarai anyone is qualified for public office if the public decides they like them and votes them into the position . even you Sarai would likely get a few votes from people who enjoy reading your bizzare , convoluted missives. and please don’t concern yourself with Sarah Palin being unfairly treated by McCain . I’m quite sure she was aware what she was getting into . Save all your “compassion ” for the poor and down trodden . I’m sure they need it far more then Sarah Palin does .

  9. Bertram000 Says:

Sarai, first, he’s a politician. No politician should be allowed to run for office. They should confine themselves to lobbying. This includes politicians of all parties. Any person who ‘wants’ to be President is immediately disqualified.

First and half-ly, he thinks he knows what’s good for everyone.

Second, he, in my opinion, is a Socialist.

  10. fourflights Says:

if you watch the clip, you’ll see that the Chris Matthews quote was way out of context, a distorted version of what he actually said. No, he’s no Russert but he’s not as bad as that quote makes him appear. As for Hilary, the Clintons have yet to get the memo that they’re on the bleepin BLUE team.
    Sheesh.

  11. Sheila222 Says:

Four, I did watch the clip which is why I said he is no Russert. Russert would have made sure the conversation stayed on something of consequence and not gotten giddy over something so stupid. What a waste of airtime.

  12. fourflights Says:

in a medium where style is substance, I understand why he said what he did, but you’re right, given all that is seriously wrong with Palin’s world view, that was pretty insignificant.

  13. blu Says:

Qualified? How is she any less qualified than Obama? Just because you don’t agree with her politics does not mean she is not qualified. I dislike everyone running but at this point I would love to see McCain/ Palin win just because of Sarai and Four. It would give me such immense pleasure.

  14. blu Says:

And it’s people like Sarai and Four who turn people off to Obama. He is not the Messiah. He isn’t much of anything besides a black man who is an okay speaker and this country pushed him to the presidency as a celebrity rather than someone truly qualified. It makes me sick.

  15. Sheila222 Says:

Well, it doesn’t make me sick that Obama was selected Blu, but I do agree with your point that if experience and qualifications are the litmus test, then why wasn’t Hillary picked? All sorts of other reasons come into play, same as with Palin.

  16. Vanda52 Says:

WOW! look at this electoral college map . McCains kicking ass and apparantly will win all 57 states . Obama gets DC and American Somoa .

  17. Vanda52 Says:

    http://news.aol.com/political-machine/2008/10/02/aol-straw-poll-oct-3-10/

  18. Tree Says:

AOL straw poll. The definitive answer. Here’s a rebuttal map, however, based on an aggregate of polls across the country.

    http://www.electoral-vote.com/

  19. fourflights Says:

Blu, if you let other people decide your vote … speaks very poorly of your decision making ability. For your information, I never said Obama was the Messiah, I just happen to agree with most of his political views. If there’s something wrong with that, I don’t know what it is.

  20. Vanda52 Says:

hey my map wasnt even showing up on the link , you have to go to vote then hit skip the vote and go to the map. This AOL map has consistently had McCain winning by huge margins but this is the worse I’ve ever seen it . It gives McCain all but 3 electoral votes .

  21. Tree Says:

The AOL poll is hardly scientific and I’m not going to vote there just to be able to see the results. I’ll take my aggregate that is based on scientifically conducted polls. There’s a lot more helpful information on that site.

  22. blu Says:

Four - You are not deciding my vote, however when Obama loses the thought of Sarai and you being “horrified” “terrified” “appalled” and all those ridiculous and dramatic words you use, well, will make me laugh.

  23. Vanda52 Says:

the problem here is Blu that Obama probably isnt going to lose unless something big time bad comes out about him in say mid october . Is there anything to come out? I have no idea but timing is everything in an election . Say that the church thing (rev wright) didnt come out when it did and was just breaking now . Something like that at this late date would sink his chances of being elected. Of course since it came out so long ago its now meaningless . Don’t count on having a good laugh Blu cause I really think you might find yourself with egg on your face .

  24. blu Says:

Vanda, I am hoping they start bringing out all the bullshit with Obama at the last second. They can’t do it too much beforehand because saying anything about a black man, true or not, would be considered racist. So best to do it right before the election where the media can’t run with it for weeks. Of course when it comes time to vote in the booth with those closed curtains, hopefully some white folks gone crazy will come to their senses.

  25. Tree Says:

Many people are already starting to vote. Ohio started on October 1. I am getting my mail ballot on October 6 and will fill it out and get it returned by October 7. You can hope that whatever mysterious slime you think is coming will come out in the next week or so and isn’t overshadowed by the economy tanking further or Palin’s disconnect of the brain to the mouth or her celebration of the “flexibility” of the Constitution in regard to the power of the Vice Presidency. The geniuses who are “holding back” till the last minute need to check the calendar. Tick tock.

Maybe I could balance your hope for Obama’s demise by hoping that McCain will have a massive stroke. Maybe we could pray that a meteor will hit the earth and knock it off its axis and we could fly away into the sun. Let’s all really roll around in the gutter and get as low as we possibly can. Let’s wallow like it’s 1999!

Drill. Baby. Drill. Fuck. The. Constitution. Move. The. Vice. Presidency. To. The. Legislative. Branch. When. It. Feels. Good. Torture. The. Prisoners. Deregulate. Everything. In. Sight. Let. The. Market. Rule. The. Planet. Pull. Yourself. Up. By. Your. Bootstraps. Blame. The. Homeowners. Stay. In. Iraq. Forever. Bomb. Bomb. Bomb. Bomb. Bomb. Iran.

  26. Vanda52 Says:

Sonya , I was just merely stating what a scenerio would be in this election for Obama to lose . I realize that your post was probably aimed at Blu but it worries me . It seems the posting of a person with some serious pent up problems . Perhaps you need to see your therapist more regularly . You seem like you are about to implode and seriously Sonya , wishing a stroke on anyone is pretty damn tacky . And anyway strokes dont run in the McCain family so you likely wont get your wish . Sonya , do you have any sense of humor at all? It seems you dont and I have to say that seems to be a thing I see in a lot of democrats . You even seemed to have taken my chart seriously when it was obviously meant as a joke. Thats about all I can say Sonya but I will add you shouldnt get so worked up over such things . Or perhaps and I suppose this is possible , your entire post is a huge macabre joke . I have my doubts that it is based on knowing you for years but lets hope I’m wrong . allan

  27. fourflights Says:

Sonya, I understand your frustration. I feel it too.

  28. blu Says:

As much as I disagree with someone, I would never wish a stroke on them. That is malicious and evil. Let’s remember this is a man with a family. And it’s no different than wanting Obama assassinated - and I would never wish that upon the man or his family. Keep things in perspective Sonya.

  29. Sheila222 Says:

This should maybe be an entirely different post, but I just feel like putting it in here.

    Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act of 1999. The Glass-Steagall Act of 1933.

The second, as far as I can tell (and I am no exhaustive scholar on all this mess, but am learning more each day) established rules and curtailed speculation in banking, hoping for more stability. It also established the FDIC which I believe in this latest bill has extended, at least temporarily, insurance for deposits in a bank up to 250K. If I am wrong on this, so be it, but that’s my understanding. The first bill listed up there, as far as I can tell by reading, did away with many of those controls and allowed mergers of investment banks, insurance companies, etc. The Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act may be one of the major sources that allowed this meltdown. It didn’t cause it, but allowed it to happen. I am going to include a link to that act. It looks to me like it enjoyed biparten support (senate 90-8, house 362-57).I have not read through the entire thing. But this bill seems to be the foundation that both Obama and McCain use to sling arrows at the other’s party as being at fault. As near as I can figure it, equal blame. May have had good intentions and horrendous results, much the way I feel about NAFTA. Now, if any of you, Bly?, can shed more light on this or if I have misinterpreted something, let me know. This entire damn thing is complicated and I am just doing what I call a scratch and sniff at this point.

    http://banking.senate.gov/conf/

  30. Vanda52 Says:

I have a question here . Lets say there is a huge crash one day like in 1929 and all the people run to the banks to get out whatever funds they have there to put under the mettress for fear of losing it all. Will this so called insurance have the funds to cover all the huge masses of cash needed to give to these people or will the FDIC just run out of cash and fold up too ? I know little about these things but for reason I have heard in the case of a crash like that there isnt the funds to cover what would be needed . amyone know about this stuff?

  31. Sheila222 Says:

Interesting that you ask this, because I asked the bank (when I went with kid to get a CD) about it. The banks pay the federal gov’t a premium for this insurance. The woman at the bank also said that the gov’t was raising their rates for the insurance (this was about in May when we had this conversation) because they felt the payments were too low in balancing the risk of a bank failure. The gov’t would actually be making the payment to you if the bank failed. It isn’t as if the bank owns the FDIC. The FDIC is an independent agency of the federal gov’t.

    http://www.fdic.gov/

  32. Vanda52 Says:

I realize that 222 but my question still is would the FDIC be it government or not or more plainly would the government be able to pay off all the funds if almost all americans made a run on the banks in a panic? I have a feeling they wouldn’t be able to and would simply close down the banks and the FDIC hoping the panic would pass. As I said I dont know about this stuff.

  33. rosa Says:

The ideal answer, Allan is yes.

    Here’s the FDIC’s budget:
    http://www.fdic.gov/about/strategic/budget/expenses.html

  34. sarai Says:

Woo hoo knock ‘em dead Sonya!

  35. blu Says:

    Sarai, Are you mentally retarded?

  36. Vanda52 Says:

well Rosa your statistics made very little sense to me so early but thats ok . I was thinking about this last night in bed and I realized if worse came to worse the government could just print up more paper money to pay all the withdeawals. Of course eventually that leads to a situation like the weimar (sp) republic in pre hitler germany where people needed wheelbarrows full of Marks to buy a loaf of bread .

  37. Vanda52 Says:

And yes Blu , I think there is something wrong with Sarai . Retardation perhaps. Maybe just some brain damage along the line spmewhere . Shes very palinesque in her communication abilities . Have you noticed that?

  38. sarai Says:

Blu, for someone who asserts she works as an accountant on Wall Street, how about lifting your remarks above grade school taunts once in awhile? I realize it strengthens your bond with Allan, still …

  39. fourflights Says:

awww, there ya go again, spoiling their fun
    : D

  40. blu Says:

    Yes, Vanda, I have noticed.

  41. Vanda52 Says:

bonds are important Sarai . Sorry you picked Four to bond with and as per your complaint a few months ago she treated you like a mere spot of dirt. In the future try to make wiser choices , allan

  42. fourflights Says:

I did what???? not that anyone in this group has, but I wonder why you think it would be such a bad thing to bond with me.

  43. Vanda52 Says:

dont you remember that long letter Sarai put in here about how you treated her like crap going to hawaii and ignoring her?

  44. fourflights Says:

that’s not what happened. Sarai can speak for herself as to what she felt about my being there on the Big Island, but I did call her to make a date to meet. It was not my decision not to. I’ve never treated anyone like dirt.

  45. sarai Says:

Carolyn, I’m going to explain my idea on personal information once again. What is between you and I belongs to us. When you (or your friend) brings our personal issues out to chat rooms it becomes fair game. Misunderstandings, mistranslations, and fodder for abuse by others who have nothing better to do than entertain themselves by pushing buttons or nose about … are the result.
… As I said to your friend, in chat, the other night for the 4th fucking time, its none of anyone’s business. Now, I have no interest or investment in any of this and unless you do, I’d like it if we can stop permitting Allan and his inbred cousin Blu to manipulate us into regurgitating fits. P.S. It’s unnecessary for you to remind us it’s not your decision or fault about stuff. It never is.

  46. Vanda52 Says:

look sarai , I dont really give much of a shit what goes on between you and four but perhaps you should go read the posting YOU put in here a few months ago about how Four treated you like crap . If you dont remember posting it and Four doesnt remember seeing it then there is something very wrong with both your memories . And Four < i have no idea if what you did in hawaii was YOU treating Sarai like dirt but her posting surely indicated thats how she felt about it. allan

  47. sarai Says:

Allan, Might I gently suggest you clean out your own house? As you’ve extended your hand to me, mine is open to you as well. Truly, Sarai

  48. nagual4a Says:

Honestly…Why do people bother trying to “convince” Republicans of anything? I mean seriously….haven’t you figured out that they are insane?

They are not rational creatures. Their brains do not process information the same way sane peoples brains do. Isn’t that painfully evident at this point? I mean…they declared war on THE WRONG COUNTRY. Under their leadership our economy is reduced to rubbles and we have lost ENTIRE CITIES. This list could go ON and On and ON…..

These are not sane people…..they are mentally ill.

  49. fourflights Says:

no, I did not treat Sarai like dirt, nor did she treat me like dirt. I will respect her need for privacy in this matter and suggest, Allan, that you do too.
There are plenty of things that are my fault. I will always happily own up to them.

  50. Vanda52 Says:

what the fuck is your problem four ? Sarai wrote the letter , not me, Sarai is the one who said in her letter/post that you treated her like dirt , take it up with her , I had nothing to do with it at the time but i did find her letter bizzare to the max.

  51. Bertram000 Says:

I kid you not, Nag! With the right scenery and mood music, you orating, “Honestly…Why do people bother trying to “convince” Republicans of anything? I mean seriously….haven’t you figured out that they are insane?” would totally bring the house down! Although I think it would even be hotter if you threw in an “uhm…”

And with Sarai by your side, gazing at you adoringly and then throwing in some fact she sort of recalled from flipping past a CNN show with some think tank people in suits…

    Go Barr/Root!!!

  52. Sarai Says:

The things I adore about Nags are many. I find him refreshingly unpretentious … a rare treat in these blogs. He doesn’t use others to massage his own ego, nor work out his insecurities through theatrics. And although he does have a fault in blanket demonizing I think it’s simply his short hand … and he doesn’t make personal attacks just for game or show. I don’t see insulting diminishing intentions and power plays from Nags. These are character traits I adore in Nags that you seem grossly lacking in Bert.

  53. Sarai Says:

Carolyn, It’s not a “need for privacy” or anything else about this matter. This is simply a boundary issue. I don’t harbor anything about this long ago incident … if I did, you’d know it as I’d have called or written you. I simply get annoyed when people use that kind of stuff for entertainment … especially when they don’t even belong in the equation.
… If anybody has any issue about anything of a personal nature outside of the blogs and chats I’d expect the courtesy of a direct contact, not birdying it about the chats or blogs.
… Allan, I thought, initially, that you were simply instigating a fight which seems characteristic of you. However, following your confusing and repetitive remarks I’m concluding that you misread or misunderstood what I wrote back then. Once again, I don’t see why you’re digging this up … or to what end.

  54. Vanda52 Says:

sarai , there is something very wrong with your thinking. Its been obvious over and over , I realize you dont see it but for me I will have to try again to avoid you as I have been along with that obvious mental mess Nag . People who think like you are not worth even having conversations with . they become problems . so bye Sarai

  55. nagual4a Says:

Lol…Bert and Vanda…thanks for the belly laugh.

Good god….just more hollow pointless rhetoric from Republicans and above it all the totally unfounded mindset that you are magically “better than” the rest of humanity. Each of you (like all republicans) recycle the same invalid ‘arguments’ again and again and honestly BELIEVE that something is wrong with everyone ELSE since the simple repetition of a NONFACT fails to make them goosestep with the Party Line. Evidence of this can be found in quite simply EVERY POST you keypunch. Just scroll up for 2 fine examples.

Take a look at Berts utterly irrelavent response to my (I must say) painfully cogent post above. Does he respond in any way to the accusation that his party declared war on the WRONG COUNTRY? (an honest sane person would)(Hell I admit that clinton took the wrong side in the Yugoslavia confict). Does he respond to the accusation that the republicans are responsible for the loss of ENTIRE CITIES in america?

Of course not. When confronted with things the party line can’t deal with he responds in the predictable, clinically insane, Republican way. He blather about an imaginary TV show or refuses to look at me or calls me “that one”.

Vanda, being ultimately an amoral coward at heart (ie…a republican) offers to accompany Bert in the goosestep with the gem “people WHO THINK like you are not worth even having conversations with they become problems”.

Give thinking a try Vanda…it’s how problems are solved. That’s solid gold advice big guy.

  56. Bertram000 Says:

Nag, honest to ghawd, I didn’t know you were asking for a response! Swear! It was apparent to me, utter scum that I am, that anything I had to say would be instantly demolished with a painfully cogent post/comment! What Republican/Libertarian (I promised Ded I would vote for Barr/Root on 11/04/08 and I shall be true to my word) could possibly say anything other than a lie?

I recognize that this next response of mine won’t go over big with you: I’m glad we attacked Iraq. I know that Dubya sleeps better for doing it. And I’ve mentioned it numerous times that when it comes to a war fought by volunteers, the more the merrier. As a rampantly pro-abortion sub-human, I don’t mind the deaths of others. And to be fair, I am very confident that when I am dead, I won’t be bitter about it. Attacking Iraq was a perk I never expected.

Our economy in ruin and cities in ruin… hey, things happen. Ever since the capitalism sprang from the forehead of Zeus, there have been Depressions. Greed knows no party lines. If you say that Republicans are more greedy and more heedless of others, I can live with it.

Cities in ruin? Nature can be a bitch. Hurricane Katrina was not Bush’s/FEMA’s finest hour. I say we vote Bush out of office!!!

Nag, I’m here to help. Anything else I can do?

  57. Sarai Says:

Iraq was nothing but a cheap shot and the entire world knows this. Just as they saw Bush’s fear about New Orleans and all the lunch bucket black folks who might hurt him. [smirk]

  58. Sarai Says:

Allan, It’s like you’ve been in a conversation with someone else … your responses to my remarks don’t make any sense to me. Hey if you wanna put a boundary down I don’t even need to understand it to respect it.
… Carolyn, allofasudden tonight I felt like I’d turned into some snarly bitch like Emma. I don’t know how this happed. Probably the overkill of politics and elections. I think I need a time out here. Ms Kathryn must be on vacation.

  59. fourflights Says:

Sarai, the “snarly bitch” can be a great source of energy and power if we use it instead of letting it use us, a delicate balance, don’t you find? I celebrate your snarly bitch, when it gives you strength.
    : )

  60. nagual4a Says:

Well…there’s more you could do but I think you’ve done a great deal in posting such an honest self evaluation as your last post was.

I’ll refer curious people to it over and over as an example of the way Republicans really think.

It’s good that you sarcastically claim to admit the desire to ‘vote bush out of office’. What’s really needed is to vote EVERY Republican out of office so as to stop the damage their insanity is doing to this country and the world.

  61. Bertram000 Says:

Thanks, Nag. I think true Republicans who can see that we’ve lost the party to Bush/Cheney Legion of Money and who know we aren’t likely to be able to win it back, are becoming Libertarians.

I’m seldom, if ever, off-handedly sarcastic. I like my sarcasm to announce itself, which is why I dress it up in lime green leisure suits. Bush is the worst thing to happen to the real Republican party. No sarcasm intended.

I could be wrong, but right now Sarah Palin is a real Republican. The new ‘handlers’ she’s been given will probably move her away from that position, and they’ll soon make her a member of the Legion of Money.

Sure, all Republican politicians are scum, but some of them are less scummy than some Democrats. If you could wrap your mind around that concept, people wouldn’t be trying to marry you off to Sarai.

  62. fourflights Says:

    lol

  63. nagual4a Says:

    Ugh….more pathetic absurdity from Bert.

Bush IS the Republican party….He’s what you were inevitably heading for when you tried to invoke “imperialism” in america (I mean the second time….with Reagan….not the first time when you just plain tried to commit TREASON and sell america back to England during the civil war). LOL…It’s so absurd to hear you lie about denouncing him now….Bush is the epicenter of EVERYTHING Republicanism is about. It’s about hillbillies pretending they are smart….It’s about them venting the frustrations of their inferiority complexes (well they TRULY are inferior) by burrowing into a warped form of imperialism. I guess you’ll pretend you JUST learned that the chimp was a moron who was only in the post due to his father?? It’s about their existing in a completely DELUSIONAL reality.

And OH MY FREAKING GOD in the end you cap off all this drivel by hiding behind Caribou Barbies skirts?? So much for those big imaginary barrel chested republican Generals….lol.

Now you claim you are a “Libertarian” without even having the barest clue what a Libertarian is….not only that you claim that all “real republicans” are becoming….LOL….”Libertarians”. Here’s that clue for you big guy. Libertarians are Anarchists who don’t like living with the ‘bomb throwing’ stigma of anarchy. Read the HISTORY on it you dolt.

Get control of your fantasy Bert…the “Legion Of Money” sounds like something you dug out of a comic book. Real life is more important than that.

Here you say you are ’seldom offhandedly sarcastic’….ten minutes ago you claimed you were nothing but a clown.
