In  my  daily trips around Long Island I see  lots  of  birds.  Yesterday for instance I went  back  to  the  pond where  I  had  seen  the  swan  cross the road a week ago to see if  he was  around  but  he  wasn’t ,so as I’m  looking at the  pond  I  see  various bird  life  including  something in a  low  bush  branch that  I’m  pretty  sure  is a  bird  .  It was pretty  big  and  if it  hadn’t  been  daytime  I  would  have  thought  it  was   an  owl of some  kind, so  today  again I  go  there  and  luck out,  not  only is  the bird  still there  in  the  exact  same  spot (I’m  having doubts  its  a  bird at  all  at  this   point) but there’s a  guy there  with  binocs so  I  ask  him  what  it  is ,    Turns out   it  was  a  small  heron type  bird called  a   Bittern,  I  mention   I  thought  it  may  have  been a  King Fisher  but  he   says   no   but  if   you  look  over   to  the  right there  is  a  King  Fisher  over there and  there was   ,

Long  Island   has   abundant bird life , It’s also  a  migratory  stop over  for many  species  using  the so called  Atlantic  flyway  (a route migrating birds  use  ).

Jilly posted something very funny (but embarrassing) that her daugher did.  So, I have to share a Buttercup story.  Awhile ago – Bubba, Buttercup, and I were at the mall near where Bubba and Buttercup live.  We all went to the bathroom together.  Another woman was in one of the stalls making bathroom type noises (farting).  Buttercup shouted, “Poop! Poop, Mommy!  Poop!”  Bubba wanted to die.  I was trying very hard not to crack up and failing miserably.

I don’t know if anyone likes these authors but Jodie Picoult, Chris Bohjalian, and Adriana Trigiani all have new books coming out in the next few weeks.

Also has anyone read Viola in Reel Life?  How was it?

day instead  having  way  at  the  bottom  of  the  news page ,  I’ve  yet to  buy  the  newspapers  today   but  I  would  put  money  on  all  the  NY papers both  liberal  and  conservative   have it as  the  main story of  the  day.  I’ll  know  soon   so  here  it  is  :

I’m usually in bed by the time the Tonight Show comes on.  But, when I was working 3rd shift, I was a big fan of both The Tonight Show and Conan’s show – especially, Conan.  I think what NBC and Leno have done to Conan is downright dirty.  Leno needs to go ahead and retire and let Conan have it.

so  yesterday afternoon   I’m driving  on Montauk Highway in  Sayville . It’s  raining  and foggy so  my  vision  is  poor  .  All of  a  sudden  I  see  a  huge  bird  crossing the  road right  in  front of  me   .  I  slow  to a  stop flash  my  lights  at  the  oncoming  traffic to  try  to  make  them  aware  of  this  giant   white  thing ,  put  on  my  flashers  to  alert  those  behind  me .   At  first  i  thought  it  was an  egret but  it  was   way  too  tall  and   heavty for  that  and  thats  when  i  realized it  was  a  huge  swan . Probably a  male owing to  the  size.     Finally  he crosses  both lanes of  traffic and  I notice  out  of  my eye a  canal on the  side  he  was heading to  and  I  suppose  thats  whenere  he  was  headed .   The  bottom  line  is  I really   didn’t want  to  see this  pure  white  spectre creamed  by a  car .  I  have  never  in  my  life  seen  a   swan  cross a  road ,   sure  ,  plenty of  geese    but   never a  swan.  I  knew  they  were  big   birds  but  Jesus  this  thing  had  to  stand 4  feet  tall  easily and  he  had a  huge  body .  Mostly  I  see   swans in  the  water  they  live  in  so  I  guess like  an  iceberg   one  only sees  a  portion  of  them.       This  AM  I traveled  the  same  route   and  saw  he   must have  come from a  small  lake on the  other  side  of  the  lake .  Hopefully he met  up  with   his  mate  in  the  canal . allan
